I thought I would write about why I joined Young Living, and it wasn’t for the money. Here’s how it all began…
This past winter (2011-2012) was pretty bad for our family when it came to being sick. Having 5 kids doesn’t help either. It seems to take longer to make it’s rounds that way. Mr. Visionary and I were having a pretty hard time, hard enough that he had to take sick leave. A friend of mine heard from her husband that we were pretty sick and called to ask if she could come over. I warned her that we were not doing so well and she said that was precisely why she wanted to come over.
When she got to our home, she opened up a bag she had brought with her and pulled out some essential oils and a diffuser. I was not very familiar with essential oils, I dabbled, but nothing serious. She promptly set to work explaining how to apply the oils she had brought with her (Thieves and R.C.) as well as how to use the diffuser. The biggest problem we were having was sinus related. We were both fighting sinus infections and were completely stopped up.
After my friend showed us how to use them, she left me with some sample size bottles and was on her way. I was not sure what to expect, but after what we had been going through, I was willing to try almost anything. Shortly after applying the R.C. to the neck and face of Mr. Visionary and me, we were breathing through our noses again. I put some in the diffuser and put that in the kids’ rooms for the first thirty minutes they were in bed. Mr. Visionary and I applied it to our faces and necks just before we went to bed and were able to sleep soundly for the first time in quite a few nights. The whole family slept well, we were able to recover and I was a believer.
I went to a conference later in the month where I had the opportunity to hear Gary Young speak in person. There’s something special about listening to the founder of something and to feel the spark that they have for their product. I signed up for Young Living that night and purchased the “Desk Reference” which is a 700+ page, beautifully polished, full color reference manual… practically EVERYTHING you need to know about Essential Oils. For those who don’t know me, I’m a nerdy reference book type of person. I like to know the nitty gritty details about something before I will recommend it to anyone else. Young Living was no exception. After going through and peeking into the depths of the manual I was HUGELY impressed with the amount of information that it contained. This book literally sits on my desk and I peek in it anytime I have a question regarding Essential Oils. If you are like me and like to know all there is to know about something before making a decision, I suggest you get this book! And unlike most college text books, it is LESS than $100.
So if you ask, “Do you sell Young Living?” my answer would be a firm “Yes.” But I only sell it because I have used it on myself and my family, and I believe in it. I cannot in good conscience, sell or recommend something I have not personally used on myself or my family. If you have any questions about it, please ask! I would be happy to share. And as always, if I do not know the answer, I will do my best to find the answer for you!

I’m curious. Is the Desk Reference a Young Living book, or a book available for purchase through any book retailer? I learned about doTerra a year ago but never delved into the program. I actually like what I’ve seen of Young Living more, from what I’ve seen so far after perusing their site, but I don’t want to invest the $$ quite yet (I will be giving birth any day now). I do, however, love to do tons of research before diving in with both feet. I liked the doTerra essential oils book, but it sounds like the one you are talking about has a lot more pages and will probably be even more thorough and in depth! If you could let me know, I would greatly appreciate it!
The Essential Oil Desk Reference is available for purchase from either the publisher or through Amazon (but the publisher offers a better price). http://www.abundanthealth4u.com/Book_Reference_Guide_Hardcover_p/1003.htm It is ‘Young Living Specific’ when it comes to recommendations and product information, but contains wealth of information besides that. It is over 700 full color pages, so for size alone it is a deal compared to college text books.
There is another “Reference Guide for Essential Oils” available from a different publisher that is not as comprehensive, but is also an excellent option: http://www.abundanthealth4u.com/Book_Reference_Guide_Hardcover_p/1003.htm It is also ‘Young Living Specific’ when it comes to product.
I am very much like you when it comes to information. I actually purchased the EODR (as the larger desk reference is referred to) before purchasing any of my oils. I wanted to know what the company stood for and believed in, and I’m a die hard “ingredients reader”
I was VERY impressed with what I learned and that is the ONLY reason I continue to recommend Young Living. They make all kinds of information and studies readily available and are open to any questions.
If you want to go even more in depth into the Chemistry of essential oils, I would recommend this book: The Chemistry of Essential Oils Made Simple ( http://www.lifesciencepublishers.com/shopexd.asp?id=42&bc=no ). I have not had the time to read this one just yet.
I have been devouring Gentle Babies (http://www.lifesciencepublishers.com/shopexd.asp?id=499&bc=no ) as I am due in 9 weeks!
I hope this answers all your questions! Congratulations on your new little one to come! I hope that you have a wonderful birth experience!!! Let me know if you have any other questions, I’d be happy to help in any way I can.
Naturally yours,
Sarah
